Dr. Assistant Prof. Robert D. White, Regional Newborn Program, Beacon children’s Hospital, South Bend, Department of Psychology, University of Notre Dame, IN, USA

Host: Liisa Lehtonen (liisa.lehtonen@utu.fi)

Robert White, MD, from South Bend, Indiana, USA has spent his career exploring the impact of the Newborn ICU environment on preterm infants, their families, and their caregivers. Over the last 30 years, the increased understanding of how each of these groups is affected by the physical and developmental environment has led to dramatic changes in how NICUs are designed and operated, with demonstrable improvements in outcomes.  It is expected that change in this field will continue to accelerate as knowledge of brain development rapidly expands.
