Science belongs to everone! Citizen research panel offers a tool to collaborate with citizens

The Science Belongs to Everyone! project at the University of Turku has launched a citizen research panel to strengthen the role of citizen perspectives in academic research. The panel is a group of voluntary citizens interested in science and research. Researchers invite panelists to collaborate on various research-related tasks that arise from the needs of the researcher and the project.
The panel is funded by University of Turku donations, and it serves all UTU researchers from all disciplines.
The panel can assist in different phases of research, e.g.:
- Supporting public engagement goals in grant applications
- Identifying and recruiting potential research participants and reviewing participant materials (including for ethics review)
- Communicating research findings to the public (e.g., press releases, social media)
Online training helps you collaborate with the panel and strengthens general research skills
A short online training is now available for researchers interested in public involvement. The training provides a flexible, self-paced introduction to the panel’s goals and operations.
Even if you’re not planning to work with the panel just yet, the training can help you develop your broader understanding of citizen involvement in research.
The project team is happy to support researchers who are exploring the panel’s potential
You are welcome to contact the project team at any stage to share early ideas, reflect on how the panel might support your research, or get practical help with writing task invitations or planning meetings.
