BioCity Turku funding call for research program collaboration 2026 open until January 30

BioCity Turku opens a funding call for researchers belonging to BioCity Turku research programs. The funding is intended for truly new openings promoting collaboration on research in molecular life sciences and biomedicine. At least two research programs should participate in the project and proposals have to involve elements that can serve the larger life science community. Proposals can include e.g. lectures, seminars, networking, training, or other initiatives which are of benefit for the larger community. The arranged events should be open for BioCity Turku researchers and graduate students. Early-career researchers are encouraged to apply.

  • Funding maximum is 10 000 € per project. Funding period is March–December 2026. All received funding must be used during 2026 according to University of Turku financial rules. Use of the funding needs to be reported in January 2027.
  • Funding can be used for consumables, travel costs, services or small instruments. Expenses of visiting lecturers can be covered. Salary can be paid in special cases only if the University of Turku rules and guidelines allow it, and it can be max. 20% of the total budget.
  • The funding can partially cover costs for purchasing some larger instrument, but due to depreciation rules (poistot) the full price for one equipment must be under 15 000 € (excl. VAT).
  • BioCity Turku research programs will cross-evaluate the applications and the result will be announced on BioCity Turku web pages www.biocityturku.fi during February 2026.
  • Application period is 8 – 30 January 2026

One-page application as .pdf must include

  • Summary and clarification of the novelty of the idea. Already-running research work or projects will not be funded.
  • Explanation how the idea truly benefits larger researcher community
  • Preliminary actions and budget
  • BioCity Turku Research Programs and research groups involved in the project (https://biocityturku.fi/research-programs/)
  • Contact person (and name of the PI if applicant is an early-career researcher)
