SUMMARY:TREMENDO Seminar\, Dewey
DESCRIPTION:20th October at 10:00-11:00\nOnsite event\nin Lauren 1\, Medisi
 ina D\n\nProf. Deborah Dewey\, University of Calgary\, Canada\nFrom precon
ception to childhood: How maternal exposures shape maternal and child heal
th trajectories\n\nDr. Deborah Dewey is a Professor of Pediatrics and Comm
unity Health Sciences at the University of Calgary and co-lead of the Albe
rta Pregnancy and Nutrition (APrON) study. Her interdisciplinary research
explores a fundamental question in maternal and child health: how do exper
iences and exposures before and during pregnancy shape maternal health and
children’s health and development?\n\nDrawing on the APrON cohort and g
lobal data\, Dr. Dewey investigates how preconception\, prenatal\, and ear
 ly childhood exposures—including environmental chemicals\, heavy metals\
, maternal nutrition\, and maternal mental health—can influence maternal
  well-being as well as children’s developing brains\, cognition\, behavi
or\, and physical health. Her work also explores how these early-life expo
sures may become biologically embedded through changes in epigenetic profi
les and biological aging\, providing new insights into the pathways linkin
g maternal environmental histories to lifelong health and neurodevelopment
.\n\nHer research spans Canada and Sub-Saharan Africa and brings together
 perspectives from pediatrics\, epidemiology\, neuroscience\, nutrition\, a
nd environmental health to better understand—and ultimately improve—he
 alth across the life course.
