SUMMARY:Bioscience Seminar: Prof. Jacques Collinge
DESCRIPTION:September 28th at 10:00\nOn-site event\nBioCity 5th floor semin
 ar room\n\nProf. Jacques Collinge\, University of Montpellier\nInference o
f cellular networks in tissues from bulk\, single-cell\, or spatial data w
ith an application to spatial transcriptomics of breast cancer\nHost: Elea
nor Coffey  (elecof@utu.fi)\n\nProf. Colligne is based at the University
of Montpellier where he leads the research group “Cancer Bioinformatics
&amp\; Systems Biology”. He has an interesting career track spanning ind
ustry and academia. Jacques Colinge is a Swiss and French national with de
grees in computer science and mathematics and a Ph.D. in applied mathemati
cs (numerical analysis of PDEs\, Geneva University). After completing his
Ph.D.\, Jacques started working as a bioinformaticians in the Pharma indus
try (Serono)\, an then as group leader in the biotech industry (GeneProt I
nc.). His main topics of research were transcriptomics and mostly mass spe
ctrometry/proteomics-related bioinformatics. After 6 years in the industry
\, he returned to the Academia as professor of bioinformatics at the Upper
Austria University of Applied Sciences in Hagenberg. Two years later\, he
joined and helped to set up the Center for Molecular Medicine (CeMM) of t
he Autrsian Academy of Sciences in Vienna directed by Giulio Superti-Furga
as Head of Bioinformatics. During these 8 years\, Jacques was also Adjunc
t Professor (Privat Docent) at the Technical University in Graz. At CeMM\,
his main research topic became systems biology and functional proteomics
data analysis. In 2014\, he moved to Montpellier to become a Full Professo
r at the Faculty of Medicine and a Principal Investigator at Montpellier C
ancer Research Center (IRCM)\, where he combines his expertise in function
al genomics and systems biology to work on cancer with numerous clinical a
nd scientific interactions. Prof. Colligne will touch upon genetic and pro
teomic\, including single cell proteomic data analysis in his talk. After
his seminar\, Prof. Colligne will serve as the opponent for the PhD defenc
e of Ye Hong at 12:00 in Educarium 1. You are all warmly welcome to attend
  that event also.
