SUMMARY:Receptor Programme seminar by Professor Harriet Wikman-Kocher (Univ
 ersity Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf\, Germany)
DESCRIPTION:Title: Liquid biopsy approaches in brain metastasis research\
nHosts: Harri Härmä (harri.harma@utu.fi) and Jukka Westermarck (jukka.we
stermarck@bioscience.fi)\n\nBiography: PhD from University of Helsinki in
2000. Group leader since 2005 and Professor since 2016 at Department of Tu
mor Biology\, University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf\, Germany. Original ar
ticles: 69\, review articles: 10.\n\nThe main research interest of Profess
or Wikman-Kocher´s group is to understand the biology behind the differen
t steps of the metastatic cascade. They are interested in finding genes an
d pathways important for these processes and to investigate their function
s by using both patient material as well as cell-culture based model syste
ms. In particular\, they are interested in investigating genetic factors l
eading to early dissemination (i.e. research on circulating and disseminat
ed tumor cells) of both lung and breast tumors\, and to better understand
the site-specific metastasis such as brain metastasis formation in various
epithelial tumors. Their aim is to use these markers in liquid biopsy spe
cimens in order to improve cancer diagnostics and also treatment of cancer
patients.\n\nSelected publications:\n\n Riebensahm et al. Clonality of C
irculating Tumor Cells in Breast Cancer Brain Metastases Patients. Breast
