SUMMARY:Lifespan seminar: The role of the bone microenvironment in cancer-i
 nduced bone disease
DESCRIPTION:Claire Edwards The role of the bone microenvironment in cancer-
 induced bone disease\n\nHost: Johanna Tuomela ( jomitu@utu.fi )\n\nCoffee
sponsored by Aurexel Life Sciences at 9.45 am\n\n-------------------------
 -----------------------------------------------------------------------\n\
nClaire Edwards obtained a first class honours degree and Ph.D. from the U
niversity of Sheffield\, where she began her career in bone oncology. She
undertook postdoctoral studies at the University of Sheffield and the Univ
ersity of Oxford.\n\nClaire then relocated to the University of Texas Heal
th Science Center at San Antonio\, and subsequently Vanderbilt University
to work with the late Prof. Gregory Mundy as an Assistant Professor. In 20
10\, she was recruited to the University of Oxford\, where she is currentl
y an Associate Professor with a joint appointment between the Nuffield Dep
 t. of Surgical Sciences (NDS) and the Nuffield Dept. of Orthopaedics\, Rhe
umatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences (NDORMS). She is also a Fellow of S
 t. Edmund Hall. Dr. Edwards is the recipient of multiple awards and fellow
ships\, including the Iain T. Boyle Award from the European Calcified Tiss
ue Society.\n\nProf. Edwards runs the Bone Oncology Group at the Botnar Re
search Centre\, University of Oxford. Specific interests include the contr
ibutions of the host bone marrow microenvironment and the role of obesity\
, adipocytes and adipokines to the pathogenesis of MGUS\, multiple myeloma
  and prostate cancer bone metastases.\n\nhttps://www.medsci.ox.ac.uk/study
