 e invited to join Professor Shetty for after-seminar lunch event for no co

  own career\, tips for dissertation work and career planning and we will h

 iver Tumour Immunology\, he is also co-theme lead in the National Institut
 e of Health Research (NIHR) Birmingham Biomedical Research Centre and Inte
 rim Director of the Centre for Liver and Gastrointestinal Research at the 
 University of Birmingham.  He qualified in medicine from the University o
 f Leicester in 1999 and undertake training in hepatology and liver transpl
 ant medicine at the Royal Free in London and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital 
 Birmingham.\n\nDuring his training\, he joined the laboratory of Professor
  David Adams and undertook a PhD focused on lymphocyte recruitment to the 
 liver. This initiated a collaboration with Professor Sirpa Jalkanen and Pr
 ofessor Marko Salmi and he was funded by a Wellcome Trust intermediate fel
 lowship  to study the mechanisms of liver fibrosis in a joint project wit
 h the Jalkanen/Salmi team in MediCity. In 2020 he was awarded a Cancer Res
 earch UK advanced clinician scientist fellowship to find new therapeutic a
 pproaches to treat primary liver cancer also known as hepatocellular cance
 r (HCC). He is a member of key international networks and elected committe
 e member of HCC-UK and the International Liver Cancer Association (ILCA) P
 atient advocacy group. His work has been recognised by several prestigious
  awards including the Lancet Young Investigator Award\, the Dame Sheila Sh
 erlock medal and United European Gastroenterology Rising Star Award.
