University of Turku.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nDr. Tuure Kinnunen is currently Profes
sor of Clinical Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Eastern F
inland. He finished his MD in 2005 and his PhD in immunology in 2007 at th
e University of Kuopio. Between 2010-2011 he worked as post-doctoral fello
w at Yale University\, USA. After returning to Finland\, he finished his c
linical training in Clinical Microbiology in 2012.\n\nThe research of Dr.
Kinnunen has focused on translational human immunology\, in particular exa
mining the mechanisms of allergy\, autoimmune diseases and primary immune
deficiencies. Since starting his own research group in 2012\, the main res
earch focus of the group has been immunology of type 1 diabetes. In collab
oration with the Finnish Type 1 Diabetes Prediction and Prevention (DIPP)
Study the group has completed multiple studies analyzing alterations in bl
ood immune cell populations during the progression to clinical type 1 diab
