He did his PhD in the University of Copenhagen and after visiting research fellow periods in Fred Hutchinson Cancer Rese arch\, Seattle\, USA and Kyushu University in Fukuoka\, Japan\, he became associate professor and after that full professor at the department of Bio logy in the University of Copenhagen. He was appointed as the Executive Di rector at the LEO Foundation Skin Immunology Research Center in University of Copenhagen this year.\n\nNiels Ødum together with his research group has made scientific discoveries including identifying new HLA genes\, thei r function and importance in transplantation and autoimmunity. He has made discoveries unravelling Interleukin-2 signal cascades and pathological si gnalling in T cell lymphoma and made discoveries of oncogenes and their ta rgets and functions. He has also carried out research in diagnostic miRNA profiling of inflammatory skin disorders\, identification of novel therape utic targets and the role of bacteria in driving T cell lymphoma and drug resistance.\n\nNiels Ødum is author of 350 papers in peer-reviewed journa ls and patents/patent applications within the fields of immunology\, immun e pathology\, signal transduction and gene regulation with more than 12.80 0 citations and H-index 62.
