 ​ -  Applying for (interdisciplinary) research funding: making your ap
 plication competitive\n“Research funding is a contest\, not a test. It's
  a competition. But many applicants don't fully understand how funding sel
 ection processes really work\, and so end up writing in for the wrong audi
 ence. The first part of this talk will cover how funding decisions are mad
 e and why that matters\, how to write at the right level of detail\, the s
 ignificance of significance\, and finally\, how to talk up your ideas with
 out boasting. The second part will look at interdisciplinary research - wh
 y it's hard\, why we should do it anyway\, how we do more/better\, and fin
 ally\, addressing the particular challenges with writing funding applicati
