SUMMARY:Frontiers of Science: Prof. Simon Yona
DESCRIPTION:\n\nFebruary 16th at 12:00\non-site event\nPresidentti auditori
 um\, BioCity\n\nDr. Simon Yona\, Hebrew University\, Israel\nHuman mononuc
lear phagocyte kinetics in health and disease\nhost: Alexander Mildner (al
mild@utu.fi)\n\nCoffee and sandwich served at 11:45\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nSix stud
ents and early-career postdocs are welcome to have a lunch in restaurant M

ility to learn hosting skills in friendly environment and create connectio
ns for future. Every student are welcome to join\, in spite of which resea

\;\n\nInflammation is an organism’s defensive response to foreign bodies
and injury. While this is beneficial\, it can go into disarray resulting
in tissue damage and the development of chronic inflammatory conditions -
including arthritis\, fibrosis\, multiple sclerosis etc. The research grou
p of Prof. Yona is interested in cells of the mononuclear phagocyte system
\, a group of white blood cells that play an important role in the body's
immune response. In the lab their research focuses on monocyte\, DC and ma
crophage dynamics and function under steady state and during disease to ga
in insights into how these cells are regulated and regulate physiological
and pathological processes. This will enable the rational development of n
ew treatments\, based on a clearer understanding of how the body responds
 to inflammation.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nSelected publications\n\nSaba Y\, Aizenbud
